My Favourite Apps

We all increasingly use apps in our daily lives to help organise and manage our hectic schedules. There are some apps that I cannot do without and that I use regularly both at work and in my home life. Probably no surprises here but what are your favourite apps?

Evernote

I use Evernote for multiple activities / tasks. The thing I really like about it is that it easily sync's across my Mac, iPad and HTC One Android device. I also like the fact that you can allow other users to update certain notes that you give them permission to access.

So what do I use it for?

Work:

  • Make notes on different subjects that I need to follow up on;

  • With the Chrome plug-in save useful links / topics that I may want to read later;

  • Take photos of whiteboards and save for later consumption.

Home:

  • Make shopping lists - easy to do this on a PC and send to my mobile;

  • Save / store research (i.e. holidays);

  • Save recipes either found online or scanned from magazines;

  • Make general task lists.

The seamless integration of Evernote on different devices and/or platforms means that no matter where I am, if I need to add to my notes I am able to do this easily and have everything sync centrally.

Zite

Zite is being phased out (merged with Flipboard - which is another favourite of mine). I tend to use Zite as my primary source for news. You can easily set up topics of interest which then form a really user friendly magazine type experience.

Both the tablet and mobile versions give a really easy to use interface and both make it very easy to share articles either personally to apps like Evernote or through social networking channels (i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn etc).

I like Zite as it provides the news I want in a very digestible format. This is one I will miss when it is merged with Flipboard.

Flipboard

The first thing I would say is I don't use Flipboard to it's full potential. Once Zite goes I think I will end up using Flipboard more.

Primarily, I use Flipboard to read my tweets. The really nice magazine interface provides a rich user experience and makes it easy to digest alot of infromation in a relatively short amount of time.

Drippler

This is a relatively new app I discovered recently. I have it installed on both my iPad and HTC One and it basically provides daily tips and recommendations to help users discover new features, apps, updates and accessories for your chosen version.

I have already ended up downloading new apps recommended by Drippler, so it will be interesting if I continue to use this app as much moving forward.

MySMS

MySMS is an app that integrates my HTC One with my Mac. Any call or text that comes through gets notified to me through my Mac. As I typically have my phone on silent this makes sure I don't miss any calls. It also makes sure that I receive (and respond) to text messages in a timely manner.

MySMS provides a interface on my Mac so i can compose text messages which for me personally makes sending text messages quicker and easier. This is a paid for app but well worth the money in my opinion.
